Saturday Update, February 12, 2022

Hello my friends

I was out of town for part of the week for a medical procedure. (Not mine.) So, we spent a couple nights in a hotel. I ended up not working on anything, and just taking a break. It was good for my mind, if not my sleep schedule.

Once back, I decided to convert all the png files to webp, not realizing how dramatic the savings in memory would be. I used a plugin for photoshop, and did each image one at a time. I probably should have tried to find an app that could have done all the images at ones.

…And after a pause I now have one, realizing I could have saved over an hour of converting files. Although I still changed the formats in the program one by one. I wanted to make sure each file was properly linked, and didn’t change anything that wasn’t supposed to be changed.

Shifting my updates

I currently update every Saturday. I do wonder if this is too much. So right now, I am planning on shifting to a twice a month update. (1st and 15th of the month.) But this really does depend on what you like. Reply to this to let me know if you like the weekly updates, or if you are fine with twice a month

Art – About 75% done – up from 70%

Now a quarter done, estimated. Although everything slowed me down this week. In addition to above I also started working with instances. For those that don’t know, instances are copies of an item so it saves resources. Makes loading scenes quicker, and frees up video card memory for renders.

Story & Code – Done

Final Thoughts:

This week was a slowdown for multiple reasons, but had I not decided to make some changes this week I probably would have beat last week.

Still, I can tell that I am improving each week. But getting 25% (roughly) of the images done in the next two weeks might be a challenge. I will try, but it doesn’t look as good as I thought. I had a plan of getting this done this month, and end up only increasing the images by 11%. (Again, roughly.) I have to do better than twice as good to hit that goal. (And why I didn’t guarantee it.)

As always, enjoy life.
