Saturday Update November 13, 2021

Hello my friends.

This week I have been both writing more of the script, and building the structure of the VN.

The structure wasn’t as important for the introduction since it was mostly kinetic. (non-branching). I didn’t want to bog down the introduction with too much that wasn’t going to be used, so I decided to wait until after the introduction to put all of that in.

That sped up my release, but it slows down the first update.

Slow process

I would love to get this done asap, but that will be a problem since I am trying not to cut corners. I have seen the sloppy work some people have done. Incomplete renders and error ridden code, and I do not want that in my VN.

There’s one little thing I wanted to accomplish that I wasn’t sure how to do, and I figured it out. As usual my ideas are not standard, so I had to take similar ideas and figure out how to implement them the way I wanted. I guess that’s the way coding is supposed to work.

Boring section starts here (Wait, the above wasn’t boring enough?)

I am initially writing a simpler code, then going through and upgrading it to a more “sophisticated” code. In other words, classes, arrays, and lists. My plan is to get something that works, then improve it. If for some reason I can’t get some aspect of it to work, I will still have the more basic code that works.

I have used arrays, classes, and lists before, but it was more or less following along, or cutting and pasting something. What I need is to understand what it is doing and why. The basic concept is fine, and makes a lot of sense to me, but I just don’t have my head fully wrapped around them just yet.

The difference is between knowing and understanding. Understanding will make it easier to fix things when they break.

Story

I have also been writing the story. I already have a lot written, but mostly those are in parts, and they are sections that will be spread out through a few updates. Most of the work needs to be on the core story that ties everything together.

This is a little harder to write about since I don’t want to reveal too much.

But why not give a general reveal about something that I am planning for the future. The cast of the original loved doing the dream sequences. As actors they would get tired of playing the same characters over and over, and the dream sequences gave them an opportunity to stretch their “acting chops”.

This won’t be implemented anytime soon. And in fact, will take some extra work, so I might start working on parts here and there on the side so I can get ahead, but limited so it doesn’t have a significant impact on the core game.

Way too long

I need to reduce how long my updates are.

As always, enjoy life.
